Satumetsä (The Fairytale Forest) is a Fairytale Magazine for children and grown-ups. Satumetsä publishes traditional and modern Fairytales and contemporary Fairytales which draw their inspiration from the traditional and modern Fairytales among many other things. Satumetsä also publishes tales about flora and fauna, translations from global Fairytales and poetry and nursery rhymes for children.
Satumetsä follows Finnish and Nordic storytelling tradition, bringing stories to our day. There are two hundred creators of Satumetsä consisting of both professional and amateur authors and illustrators who bring the contemporary Fairytales of Satumetsä to life.
Satumetsä takes its creators and readers to a new era of blossoming imagination. Satumetsä’s paragon is Children's Magazine Pääskynen which was published in Finland during 1871—1881 and 1906—1935.
The core of Satumetsä is in enhancing Finnish language skills of children and regenerate the tradition of storytelling in Finnish homes. Satumetsä supports and complements the teaching of Finnish language and Literature in schools across Finland.

Satumetsä publishes stickers, coloring pages, Children’s comics, fun recipes and stories and illustrations children have made themselves!
The stories and illustrations by children are accepted via e-mail satumetsa@satumetsalehti.fi and via snail mail.
In the year 2022, Satumetsä was published as an e-publication by volunteers. Starting from 2023, Satumetsä is having a publication break from its annual publication cycle (4 times per year) due to financial reasons and is focusing mostly on audio- and e-book production and publishing special issues.
The publication break for annual publishing will continue in 2026.
In 2026, Satumetsä publishes a special issue, Muinaiset valtakunnat I -erikoisnumero (Ancient Kingdoms I special issue), an e-book from 2025 continuation story Undine, YouTube theatre play from the American folktale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, e-book of Native American tales and audio- and e-books from stories Sleeping Beauty, Mesikämmen (1914) by Eino Leino,
Wongo and the Curse of Cello by James Paul in Finnish and in English,
Japanese horror folklore tale Yuki-onna, English version from Finnish folktale Antti Puuhaara (Antti Treebranch), Celtic myth Oisin ja Tír na nÓg,
poem The Lament of the Old Woman of Beare and a Christmas tale 2026. During the publishing year 2026 Satumetsä might also publish some other surprise audio- and e-books!
Alongside Satumetsä will start a mentoring and consultancy service Delfoin Oraakkeli (Oracle of Delphi).
